Le Jardin d'Hildegard

Chants by Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179)

Hildegard von Bingen is undoubtedly one of the most famous women of the entire Middle Ages, known for her writing, visionary drawings and medical treatises, as well as for composing over 70 musical pieces.

Throughout her work, Hildegard’s voice comes through, and she has an unequivocal originality. She was also known as a healer and had deep knowledge of the healing properties of the natural world. Her songs are full of imagery evoking the fertility of nature. Although it was composed originally to be sung as part of Christian rituals (Hildegard was an abbess), her music is today greatly appreciated by listeners from all walks of life.
