Son-mat
A meditative concert combining singular paraphrases and arrangements from female composers
In reference to the microflora of the hands, the Korean culinary expression “son-mat” (“hand taste”) describes the various results two different individuals can get while following the exact same recipe. By analogy, musicians who lived in cloisters like the Monastère des Augustines have developed their very own practice and relationship with music, despite a standardized musical education.
Embracing both concepts, Atopos has prepared a meditative concert combining surprising paraphrases from an unexpected repertoire and highly personal arrangements of pieces composed by nuns.

Le Monastère des Augustines is a heritage haven of culture and wellness. It is located in the historic wings of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec monastery, from which emerged the first hospital on the continent north of Mexico. Through its cultural and social vocation, Le Monastère is a testament to the way of life of the Augustinian Sisters in Canada, as well as their social and spiritual endeavours.
