Baroque music for archlute and theorbo
The arrival and establishment of the Augustinian nuns in Quebec City happened at the same time as the Baroque period in music.
In the monastery’s choir, La Chamaille is offering an intimate concert built around one of the jewels of this period: the piece Les Voix humaines by French composer Marin Marais. The program includes a number of other pieces all based on the principle, widely used at the time, of variations on a repeated accompaniment. If the accompaniment reflects the unchanging presence and vocation of the Augustinian nuns, the variations embody their passage through time and their adaptation to different eras.
